COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER

A community health worker is someone who has an interest in and is volunteering or working within a community on an issue or issues that impacts the lives of those who live in that community. Your life experiences serve as the textbook. You do not need to be a health care worker or health care professional. Your life experiences and learning while working and/or living in the community are the basis for the learning you will experience with others who share similar interests within their communities. This learning experience will become another form of building community - through technology.

Houston Community College (HCC) – Southeast campus is a Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) certified teaching site for community health and community health instructor courses and CEU offerings. These courses are offered on campus and on-line via Distance Education.

The courses are offered through the Corporate Training and Continuing Education Department (CTCE) located at 6815 Rustic. Ruth Stevelman, M.S. is the Director of Corporate Training and Continuing Education.
