Study of the structure of the human body. Students should be able to identify the anatomical systems of the human body, name the parts of the body and how they relate to each other, and explain the relationship of the structure of the body to the practice of massage therapy.

Physiology
(25 Hours)
Study of the normal vital processes of the human body,including the detailed functions of the cells,tissues,heart,brain,spinal cord and nerves,coordination through the circulatory, digestive, respiratory,nervous,and endocrine,excretory and reproductive systems. Students should be able to describe the processes,mechanisms and functions of each.
MSSG 1009
Health & Hygiene
(20 Hours)
Study of the recoginzed methods of sanitation and cleanliness, including disease prevention as applied to massage therapy and current knowledge of healthy lifestyles. Students should be able to explain the difference between pathogenic and nonpathogenic bacteria and develop a health safety plan.
MSSG 1005
Hydrotherapy
(15 Hours)
Study of the use of accepted methods of external applications of water for its thermal, mechanical, or chemical effect. Students should be able to describe types of apparatus used in hydrotherapy, explain and demonstrate the use of heat and cold treatments, explain contraindactions, safety rules and limits on hydrotherapy methods.
MSSG 1007
Business Practices & Professional Ethical Standards
(15 Hours)
Study of standard office and advertising practices and ethics for massage therapists. Students should be able to list and explain the rules and regulations, permits and registrations required for the business and practice of massage therapy in the state of Texas.
MSSG 1011
Swedish Massage
(125 Hours)
Instruction in theory and skills to meet state requirements for registration as a massage therapist. Students should be able to discuss components of and demonstrate proficiency in the skills necessary to perform massage therapy according to the criteria of the Texas Department of State Health Services.
MSSG 2086
Internship in Massage Therapy
(50 Hours)
Begins only after the completion of the required 250 hours of instruction described above. Provides the supervised experience required by the Texas Department of State Health Services and allows students to demonstrate skills necessary to perform massage therapy.
