Texas Public Education Grant

The Texas Public Educational Grant was established by the Texas Legislature for the purpose of providing a program to supply grants of money to students attending institutions of higher education in Texas. To participate in any of the TPEG grant programs the student must complete the Free Application for Federal Aid. Students must demonstrate need using the need ananlysi criteria employed by Houston Community College. The following state-programs are only available to students attending schools in Texas.

Start-Up TPEG

Grant monies awarded to students who have not previously received any type of financial aid and have not yet completed all of the application requirements for federal, state, or institutional aid. The amount may not exceed the cost of tuition, fees and text books.

Supplemental TPEG

Grant monies awarded to supplement other student aid funds awarded to students as part of a package of aid. The amount may not exceed $1,000 per academic year or the amount of unmet need, whichever is less.

Pell Ineligible TPEG

Grants monies awarded to students who are ineligible for federal pell. Students must demonstrate need using the need analysis criteria employed by Houston Community College. The amount may not exceed $1,000 per academic year or the amount of unmet need, whichever, is less.

State Student Incentive Grant (SSIG)

State Student Grant monies awarded to undergraduate student with exceptional financial need. Priorities given to pell grant recipients

Texas College Work-Study Program (TCWS)

This program is funded by the state through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and HCCS. TCWS may be awarded to eligible undergrauate students who are a Texas resident and enrolled at least half-time.
