STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for financial aid a student must be admitted to Houston Community College and enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate granting program. All sources of financial aid have some kind of eligibility requirements. Eligibility requirements for the various student aid programs vary from program to program. Before you apply for any type of financial aid, it is important that you meet the general qualifications for consideration. Minimum eligibility requirements for most or all financial aid programs at HCCS require that the student:
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Have a valid social security number
- Have a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, or pass
- Take an independently administered test approved by the U.S. Department of Education
- Working towards a degree or certificate in an eligible program of study
- Make satisfactory academic progress
- Sign a Statement of Educational Purpose/Selective Service Registration Status (if required) Certification Statement of Refunds and Defaults, and a Statement of Updated Information (All found on the Student Aid Report (SAR)
- Have financial need
- State financial aid programs require that all applicants be a resident of Texas
